“The role entrusted to me as Chair of this important European standardization body for the transformation of the circular economy of plastics fills me with great pride, but Kristin Geidenmark-Olofsson also leaves behind a great professional and personal legacy, whose footsteps I will now try to fill in the coming six years,” says Frank Stammer about his new position.
The working group “Plastics Recycling” of the Technical Committee for Plastics in the European standardization body (short: CEN/TC 249 WG 11) is not only one of the leading European communication platforms for experts in the standardization of plastic recyclates, but also one of the most important coordination partners for European, international, US-American and African standardization activities in the processing of plastic waste. In addition, CEN/TC 249 WG 11 has been commissioned by the EU Commission under a European standardization mandate (Mandate M/584) to develop new standardization documents on quality classes for separated plastic waste and the quality assessment of plastic recyclates in products by 2 August 2025 and to adapt the existing standardization documents on the characterization of plastic waste and plastic recyclates to the state of the art.
“I am really looking forward to the feedback and input from the European and international plastics industry on the new draft standards for plastics recycling in Europe when they are presented for public comment by the national standardization bodies such as the German Institute for Standardization at the end of February or beginning of March. I would like to express my great respect and thanks to the 150 or so standardization experts in Working Group 11 for their outstanding work in preparing these documents over the past few months,” summarizes Frank Stammer.
