In the slag granulation of a blast furnace, the granulated blast furnace slag is conveyed into a settling basin through a system of channels.
The original channel was not resistant to the abrasive stress of the granulated blast furnace slag. High costs for repairs and maintenance were continually incurred. Kalenborn lined the channel with the wear-resistant high-performance concrete KALCRET BTX.
KALCRET BTX consists of resistant hard materials in a cement matrix and offers maximum erosion and abrasion resistance. KALCRET BTX was applied with a thickness of 80 mm in the base area and 35 mm on the side walls. The prefabricated component was assembled on site. The channel has been in use for 12 years without any significant wear.
